Fort Atkinson joined Bird City Wisconsin in 2016. Bird City Wisconsin’s mission is “to encourage all communities in Wisconsin to implement sound bird-conservation practices by offering public recognition to those that succeed in (a) enhancing the environment for birds and (b) educating the public about the interactions between birds and people and about the contributions birds make to a healthy community.”

Bird City Wisconsin has criteria which must be met each year in order to maintain Bird City status.  Learn here how Fort Atkinson has met these criteria.  Heart of the City’s No Mow May initiative fits these criteria, as its goal of habitat protection for pollinators is beneficial for birds as well.
